A Bakery and a Cat Café?

The Sault's Cat-urday Cat Café is the Sault’s first ever cat cafe. We are located inside Thyne’s Family Bakery at 177 Gore Street Sault Ste Marie Ontario. Thyne's has been serving our city delicious baked goods, breads and cakes since 2004. There are two sections to our building: the Thyne’s Bakery side (completely cat free; where your beverages and food are prepared/served). Here we serve a variety of specialty drinks, sandwiches/lunch specials and sweet treats made fresh in house daily. And then we have the cat lounge, which is it’s own room, separated by a hall and double doors. There we offer adoptable furry cats to cuddle and play with while enjoying some quality coffee and yummy snacks.

But cat hair near my baked goods?

The Bakery is kept completely separate from the cat café. Bakery staff is not permitted access to the Cat Café during operating hours, to avoid possible cross contamination of germs or pet hair. The Bakery must be closed and the kitchen locked for the day before any of Thyne’s staff may enter the cat lounge. There are cat nannies on staff at all times in the cat area to watch over our feline friends. The Cat Café must conform to strict zoning and local health codes; all food and drink, all food/beverage preparation, storage, serving, and food disposal/waste is all preformed on the Bakery portion of the building. The Cat Café even has it’s own air intake/exchange and conditioning, separate to the one used by the Bakery. If you do not want to come in contact with kitties no worries. You don’t have to.

Where does the Cat Café get their cats from?

Most of our cats come from a local rescue, T.A.A.G. T.A.A.G. is volunteer based and non-profit charity that is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing animals who are unwanted, abandoned, abused, feral or facing euthanasia. They are a group that receives no government funding and survives solely on independent donors and volunteers to help provide for and support their animals. We have partnered with them to help aid in their mission to finding forever homes for their cats.

How do the Cat Café, Thyne’s Family Bakery and T.A.A.G. work together?

The Sault's Cat-urday Cat Café is a business located inside Thyne’s Family Bakery, that has partnered with T.A.A.G., who provides us with our feline friends. The Bakery section of the building is kept separate from the cat café section but you must enter Thyne’s Bakery to gain access to the café. What this means is that Thyne’s Family Bakery is the provider of the facility, daily labour costs for care for the cats, staff and supplies (such as litter, sanitation and cleaning products, food toys, cat trees, beds, etc). T.A.A.G. provides volunteers, cleaning protocols/sanitation and, of course, the cats! We work together to provide the cats with comfortable, stable and home-like accommodations until they are adopted into their forever home.
